Historic Masonic Theatre, Songs of George Jones & Tammy Wynette
April 19 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Wayne Brewer, a sixth-generation musician well-known for his work with Gary Brewer & The Kentucky Ramblers, and his talented wife, Alyssa, team to salute country legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette. The Brewer’s debut album finds the couple covering such well-known classics as the first single, “Golden Ring,” and “We’re Gonna Hold On,” in addition to lesser-known gems like “Rosie Bokay.” Robert K. Oermann, in Music Row Magazine says, “Alyssa and Wayne Brewer, whose George and Tammy recreation must be heard to be believed…it takes courage to take on the repertoire made immortal by two of the greatest singers in country music history, but the Brewers are impressively up to the task. Both of them have pitch-perfect vocal chops and can match their Hall of Fame fore-bearers lick for lick. Frankly, I was blown away.”
The Historic Masonic Theatre is an architectural treasure. Designed by the Lynchburg firm of Frye and Chesterman, and commissioned by Low Moor Masonic Lodge 166, the Theatre opened in September 1906. A three-story Beaux-Arts brick building, with an additional underground level, a pilastered facade, cove ceiling lobby and original performance hall with stage, enriched proscenium and balcony, the historic theatre has been transformed into a performing art, entertainment, education, and community facility. The mission of the Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation is to serve the greater Alleghany Highlands community with a variety of educational, entertainment, business and social programs; and to partner with organizations in need of a facility to host programs. By doing so, the Masonic Theatre and Amphitheatre will be utilized in providing first-class venues for performances as well as multi-use space for community activities.
